Simply put, a Six Metre (6mR) is about 36 feet long, about 6 feet wide and weighs about 10,000 pounds. Most of that weight, perhaps 8,000 pounds, is lead in the keel, which prevents the boat from capsizing when heeling, or pushed hard on its side by the wind"
